Vampires and Zombies

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Why is everyone talking about vampires and zombies? I have seen reports of a Zombie Walk in Toronto and even here in downtown over the weekend. Why would people want to get dressed up like they are dead? It makes no sense to me. And the vampires! Why would anyone want to encourage the idea that some people have been transformed into monsters that drink your blood and either kill you or turn you into a fellow monster? What good can ever come of those kinds of stories?

Whose Dog?

This afternoon a beautiful German Shepherd came trotting down the street in front of my house. I have no idea who he belongs to. He obviously escaped from a loving home. He was well fed and wore a collar. As much as I love dogs, I’m not going to approach one that I do not know. But I hope he went back to his home and did not get into any trouble while he was running loose.

No Lie

The locals have an annoying way of adding a saying to their conversation. They say something to the effect of, “To be honest with you.” And if they are excited they might exclaim, “I’m not lying!”

This bothers me to think that they must be lying to me except in the particular instances when they tell me that they are not lying. Is lying so acceptable now that we all just lie as a matter of course? What a shame it has come to that.
