The Deep End

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

The kids are doing so great in their Polywogs class at the Y. They are all able to jump into the deep end of the pool and get back to the ladder on their own. Wow!

Next session they actual learn to kick and stroke with their arms correctly. By the end of July all of them will be real swimmers.

Have you had a slice of watermelon lately? We bought a seedless watermelon at Kroger for $3 and cut into it last night. It was so good!

Little Tadpoles

Friday, June 12th, 2009

The kids finished up their swim lessons today. Each one got a progress report from their teacher, with checklist of all the skills they have mastered. It is pretty impressive to take these youngsters from no swimming experience at all to kids who can jump in the water and retrieve a toy from the bottom of the pool! All this in just six lessons!

Next week they can sign up for the intermediate level classes for just $70. I’m not sure I should spend the extra money right now, but I do want them to be good swimmers. We will have to see if I can afford the cost this month and still meet all my bills.

Little Swimmers

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Today was the end of the first week of swim lessons for the kids. They’ve had a blast in the water and love going to the YMCA. There are two teachers, both of them very young – like high school age – but they are both very good with the children. I’m so impressed with the way they interact with the kids and find clever ways to keep them all involved and participating – even the other kids who are a little scared of the water.

My kids are like little ducks. They have always loved the water and are not afraid at all. This class is too elementary for them, but they have excelled and that is good. I’m going to sign them up for the intermediate level classes that follow this session of beginner lessons.
