Memorial Day Tribute

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Memorial Day is always a special, bittersweet holiday for my family. My dad served in the Navy and was killed when I was very young. I barely remember him. The handful of photos that my mom keeps in her memoroy book help bring back the few memories that I do have. He was a very handsome man and the photo of him in his Navy dress whites with my mom in her simple cotton summer dress and hat is my favorite photo of them both. But it makes my mom sad to see that photo – it was taken right before he shipped out for the last time. So I don’t have that photo out for her to see and be sad. But I love that photo.

Graduation Parties

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

This whole month is parties every weekend as the different schools and colleges finish up the year and have their graduations. Every weekend all the limos in town are booked solid to transport the new grads and their escorts to celebratory dinners and parties.

One of the most popular restaurants in town for these types of parties and celebrations is Morton’s Steakhouse, downtown. This is a beautiful restaurant property, with dark paneled walls and soft lights. It is very posh, old school, and the food is magnificent.

English Class

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Yesterday I was talking about English class, from back in the high school days. I had a very young teacher, who was pretty and very hip, as compared to most of the high school teachers who were just fuddy duddies. One of my teachers even wore a bow tie to class every day. Ugh.

But English was fun because the teacher made it fun. We wrote poetry, gave book reports to the class to build our public speaking skills, and wrote a screen play as a semester-long project.

Of all my high school classes, I think my sophomore English class was my favorite.
