We have not seen the first snowflake tonight but the news has announced that schools are closed tomorrow due to a snow forecast. That’s a little crazy to close them when it is just predicted. But then again, it will be so much less stress in the morning, worrying about whether the kids have school, whether they will be safe on the bus, whether school will have to close early and all that.
I hope we do get a little snow so the kids can have some fun for a day playing outdoors and so it was worth closing the schools.

Happy New Year!

We could not stay awake long enough to watch the ball drop on Times Square. I’m sure it was exciting, as it is every year. I fell asleep knowing that 2009 was about over and that 2010 hold promise of many good things for us all.

Santa found our house last night just fine. He ate a couple of the cookies that we left out for him, and left severl wrapped presents and a full stocking of goodies for everyone. The kids have been up since 6:00 am and have already opened everything here. I’m going to cook a nice brunch for us all in a little bit.
We are going to have a very busy next couple of days. I hope you have a nice Christmas, too.

Got up early this morning and wen to the last couple of stores to finish my shopping. The kids were happy to stay at home and watch cartoons, play video games, and lounge around the house with their dad while I went out.
The stores were not nearly as crowded as I expected. I think that people just don’t have as much money to spend this year and they don’t have all the credit cards and crazy high credit limits any more. So I breezed through the stores and got home in just a few hours.
Tonight will be the marathon gift wrapping session. I learned years ago to not put that off until Christmas Eve. It always takes longer than you expect and then you are up until dawn and too exhausted on Christmas morning to enjoy watching them tear up everything you worked so hard to make look pretty and enticing.

We put up our Christmas tree last night. It was a lot more work than I remember. Even though the tree has lights on it, one of the sections of lights would not come on. I don’t know why – it all looks OK but they just don’t light up. So we had to put that section in the back, and you don’t notice it as much.

Some people put their tree up before Thanksgiving. I think that’s crazy. That’s so long to have the room in disarray and too much anticipation for the kids. They get so worked up about all their presents, then even though they get a lot of gifts, they always seem disappointed that there weren’t more. Then I get depressed and the whole day is ruined.
