May Day Celebrations

May 1st, 2012

May Day has always been a favorite celebration for me. It has everything to do with Spring, re-birth and hope.

I love the idea of people dancing around a May Pole and celebrating all things new and fresh. I actually even danced around a May Pole when I was a child, at a school festival. I wish May Day was made a holiday so more people could appreciate a happy event.

Looking for New Shoes

April 26th, 2012

The past 3 or 4 years I’ve been wearing a nice pair of Skechers that I bought for casual wear. The color is a nice neutral that goes with everything and they are incredibly comfortable. But they are starting to show wear, with a frayed edge and a worn down heel. So I decided to get a new pair, but I don’t like any of the new Skecher styles. I think that company has gone off in a different direction when it comes to stylish.

So, I could use some suggestions about a different brand to try. I want shoes that are a neutral color, like medium brown, kahki, or sage green. Or I would be willing to buy a pair that looks good with blue jeans. But I need comfort and no laces. Let me know what you’ve been wearing and why you like them.

Latest Exercise Craze

April 20th, 2012

So what is the latest exercise craze these days? I have seen so many different fads and don’t watch late night TV, so I don’t know what they are telling us is the way to get fit and lose weight. My friend, Evelyn, and I are wanting to start a nice exercise routine of some type – we both want to stay in shape and it is always easier to do that with a buddy.

Do you remember the Richard Simmons dancing craze? That poor man has taken a lot of teasing from people like David Letterman over the years. I think I remember some photos of him before he started his dancing and he has been fit and trim all these years. So its working for him. Evelyn thinks that is a little too ambitious for us to try at this point, but I am open to suggestions, so please send me a message or give me some ideas in a comment.

Ghiradelli Chocolates

April 16th, 2012

When a store puts the foil bags of Ghiradelli chocolates on sale, I try to stock up.  The normal price is usually around $4 for one bag, but sometimes I can get them 2 for $7, and the best price I’ve found lately is 2 for $6. When I find them 2 for $7 I will buy two bags, but if I find them for $3 a bag I buy 4 or more.

The problem with stocking up is that when I have several bags of my favorite candies, then I end up eating more. If I only have a few bags, I eat them more sparingly. The question is also which flavors do I get and which flavors do I choose at night when I want my little piece of chocolate indulgence?

Freeze and Frost Warnings

April 11th, 2012

We’ve been enjoying such a wonderful, mild Winter and early Spring, that I think some people were a little over-eager to plant their gardens. Last night the temperatures dropped back down to the 30′s and I had to cover my beautiful azalea bushes with old bed sheets to protect them from frost.

Tonight they have issued a frost warning for the entire state and a warning of dropping temperatures that might be below freezing for our area. So I’ll be putting the sheets back out tonight and hope that this is just a temporary drop.
